Motocross Helmets, Enduro Helmets, & MX Helmets

Every rider is legally required to wear a SHARP or ECE-certified motorcycle helmet. However, motorcycle helmets become even more important for off-road biking like motocross and enduro racing.

If you don’t have one already, grab a reliable enduro motorbike helmet for your next adventure.

Maximo Moto stocks top-class MX helmets for off-road motorcycling. Whether you are in a rally or having an adventure through the woods or any unfriendly terrain, a SHARP-certified motocross motorbike helmet will protect you.

All motocross helmets are full-face motorcycle helmets. The nature of sport prohibits using open-face motorcycle helmets, jet helmets, or even modular helmets.

Start your search with LS2 motocross helmets or look through trusted HJC motocross helmets, we have a wide variety to choose from.

Why are motocross helmets different?

Motocross helmets are built for maximum protection in harsh off-road biking conditions. A motocross rider is exposed to dirt, debris, flying branches, and bugs on the trail. Also, since they have high speeds and the path is not surfaced, any accident can cause severe injuries.

Motocross helmets have a distinctive long chin guard and a peak visor. Both of these are built to dispose of some of the shock impacts. Peak visor breaks down in an accident reducing the impact to the head.

Enduro full face helmets are lightweight helmets with a wide field of vision. These helmets are built to wear a visor as the ordinary glass shield or visor can’t offer enough protection on an enduro trail.

Motocross helmets are subjected to rigorous standards. Many new motocross helmets have MIPS technology which reduces the rotational force on the helmet in case of a crash.

How to select the right MX helmet or enduro helmet for you?

When selecting your next enduro full face helmet, prioritise comfort, right fit, and protection. You’ll be wearing your enduro motorcycle helmet in harsh conditions and it can be hot on the trail. If you are sweating or your helmet is not fully comfortable, it will greatly hinder your performance.

Use this process to find the best enduro helmet/best mx helmet.

Find the Right Fit

One of the most important factors in finding the best MX helmet is the right fit and comfort. Riding can become an unpleasant experience if the helmet is not the right fit. Also, wrong fit or discomfort is a safety threat. Here is how you can find the right enduro motorbike helmet.

  • Measure your Head with a Soft Measuring Tape: Cloth measuring tape is the right thing for measuring your head for an enduro bike helmet. Measure from right above your eyebrows to the widest part of your head. Note down this measurement.

  • Consult Size Charts of Different Helmets: Check your head measurement against the size chart of different helmets. Pick one that matches your size.

Consider your Head Shape

Your head shape is important in finding the right helmet. Head shape can be;

  • Long oval: More in length than width

  • Medium oval: Slightly longer than wider

  • Round oval: Balanced, almost equal in length and width

Try on Your Helmet

If you are buying online, pay special attention to the brand’s return or exchange policy. At Maximo Moto, you can easily return or exchange your helmet if it is not the right fit.

Check Initial Snugness: Put on your helmet. Level it without any tilt forwards/backwards. Check if your helmet is touching your head comfortably and there is no gap between the padding and your head. Make sure to adjust the straps as this is how you’ll ride.

Check Movement: Move your head from left to right and front to back. The right-fitting helmet won’t move much. If you feel that your helmet has some free movement when you turn your head, it is probably not the right fit.

Finger Test: Put two fingers between your forehead and your helmet’s padding. If you can, the helmet is loose. For the right fit, you should only be able to put one finger between your helmet and your forehead.

Material and Durability

Helmet material determines durability and protection. Advancements in technology are enabling manufacturers to produce lightweight yet strong and fully protective motorcycle helmets.

Polycarbonate Material: affordable, durable, but heavy, good for casual rides.

Fibreglass Composite: relatively lightweight with better shock absorption.

Carbon fibre: lightweight, superior strength-to-weight ratio, expensive.

We suggest buying a carbon fibre helmet as these are lightweight and offer a comfortable ride. Check carbon fibre mx helmets here.

Ventilation

Check for ventilation. It is very important. You can’t focus on your ride if you are sweating, and distraction can potentially cause injury.

Check for front and back ventilation so that the airflow is right and you don’t sweat.

Goggle Compatibility

You’ll need to wear goggles with your MX motorcycle helmet. See their recommended goggles or ask them if the helmet would pair right with the goggles. Most sellers have support that can help you pick helmets and goggles.

Safety Technology

MIPS is one of the latest safety technologies in motorcycle enduro helmets. It reduces rotational force in case of a crash.

FAQs

Are motocross helmets road legal in the UK?

Motocross helmets are legal in the UK when they meet British standard BS 6658:1985 or ECE 22.05. You can verify that on the helmet label.

Why do motocross helmets have a peak?

Motocross helmets’ peak prevents debris, dirt, tree branches, and other dangerous things from entering your helmet. Also, in case of a crash, this peak absorbs some of the shock and breaks down, which helps with rider safety.

What is the best brand of motocross helmets?

Highly debatable but the brands that make motocross helmets with carbon fibre and equipped with technologies like MIPS may be considered the best brands of motocross helmets. We recommend checking top-quality motocross helmets from LS2, HJC, and Alpinestars.

Can you use a MX helmet on the road?

Yes, you can use an MX helmet on the road if it is ECE and British Standards-certified.

Why don't motocross helmets have visors?

Visors block dirt and protect from the sun but they also stop the airflow. Since motocross riding conditions are harsh, motocross helmets use goggles instead of visors to increase ventilation and improve the riding experience.

How often should you replace your MX helmet?

You should replace your MX helmet every 3-5 years. If your helmet has been in a crash, replace it immediately, even if it is not damaged.

Are motocross helmets good for the street?

While you can legally wear them on the street, you’ll have to put up with noise, dirt, protection, and comfort. Motocross helmets are made for better ventilation and greater safety but they don’t have visors. You’ll receive all the road noise along with increased airflow.

How tight should an MX helmet be?

Like other helmets, an MX helmet should be a snug fit. It should be very loose or uncomfortably tight.

Do unused bike helmets expire?

Yes, the materials wear down and the molecular bonding weakens with time. Even if you never use your helmet, you shouldn’t use it beyond 5 years.

What does MIPS mean in helmets?

MIPS is a Multi-Directional Impact Protection System in helmets. This technology reduces rotational force by reducing the friction between the helmet’s outer surface and inner padding. The technology reduces brain injury risk.
