How to spray a vintage motorbike helmet?

Painting a vintage motorbike helmet is a detailed and lengthy process. Here is the process of spraying a vintage motorbike helmet. 

• Strip the helmet of shield, visor, straps, vents, etc. Also, remove the screws and stickers. 

• Scuff the surface with a scouring pad. 

• Clean the helmet with a clean rag and mild solvent. 

• Cover the face shield area 

• Begin painting. Apply light coats to avoid paint dripping. 

• Clear coat and assemble, apply 2,3 coats of clear paint, and let it dry. 

• Add design

• Spray the second color and clear coat 

• Unwrap the helmet. Let it dry if it isn’t already. 
  

Is a 20 year old motorcycle helmet safe?

No, a 20 year old motorcycle helmet is not safe, even if it has never been in a crash. That is because chemical processes weaken the materials, especially inside soft material layer i.e., polystyrene (EPS).
